The travel modes
| Mode | Standing order | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Explore | Press east into new, tougher lands. | Pushing your furthest-east record; general progress. |
| Hunt | Seek out and attack nearby monsters. | Combat XP, coins and drops without travelling far. |
| Rest | Stop and recover health. | Healing up after a rough stretch; parking safely. |
| Return | Head west, back toward Wanderer's Rest. | Getting back to civilisation without steering. |
| Manual | Tap to walk; tap a foe to attack. | Precise errands, boss approaches, sightseeing. |
The ten profession modes
Every trade has its own standing order. Five send your wanderer out to gather; five send them to a building to make something. Mine and Stonecutting need a pickaxe in your pack or equipped, Woodcutting needs an axe — modes you can't currently use are hidden from the list rather than offered and refused.
| Mode | Standing order | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Mine | You pick an ore; they find its nearest deposit and work it. | Targeted ore for the forge. |
| Woodcutting | You pick a wood; they find matching trees and cut logs. | Logs for the sawmill and the bench. |
| Foraging | Pick a wild food, or gather whatever kind is available. | Berries and mushrooms for the campfire. |
| Fishing | Fish at the water's edge with a rod. | The best XP per action of any gathering trade. |
| Stonecutting | Cut building stone from boulders with a pickaxe. | Stone for construction. |
| Smelting | You pick a bar; they walk to a furnace and smelt it. | Turning a full pack of ore into bars. |
| Smithing | You pick a recipe; they walk to an anvil and forge it repeatedly. | Converting bars into tools or gear. |
| Sawmilling | Head to a sawmill and cut logs into planks. | Planks for every bench recipe. |
| Carpentry | Head to a carpenter's bench and build. | Bows, rods and mallets — the bench is their only source. |
| Cooking | Head to a campfire and cook. | Food that heals, from your own catch and foraging. |
What each profession mode pays
All ten trades were given an across-the-board 30% XP rise in August 2026, and every point already banked was raised to match. The figures below are the current rates.
Gathering: XP per success
The five gathering trades share one curve, read at the level of the thing you are working — a level-40 tree pays what a level-40 rock pays — and then each trade applies its own coefficient on top. Deeper nodes are worth more, so pushing east pays twice.
| Mode | Lv 1 | Lv 20 | Lv 40 | Lv 60 | Lv 80 | Lv 120 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fishing | 35 | 75 | 144 | 239 | 363 | 755 |
| Stonecutting | 22 | 49 | 94 | 155 | 236 | 490 |
| Woodcutting | 19 | 40 | 77 | 128 | 195 | 405 |
| Mine | 19 | 41 | 78 | 129 | 197 | 409 |
| Foraging | 19 | 41 | 78 | 129 | 197 | 409 |
A failed swing or cast still pays a consolation — about an eighth of a success, so 9–15 XP at a level-40 node. Nothing is ever wasted effort.
Making things: XP per item
The crafting trades pay by what an item actually costs to make, so a recipe that eats rarer materials pays more. A representative rung from each:
| Mode | Early | Middle | Deep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smelting | Bronze Bar — 36 | Aethersteel Bar — 180 | Celestial Bar — 1,025 |
| Smithing | Bronze Sword — 310 | Mystic Sword — 2,225 | Ivory Sword — 9,700 |
| Sawmilling | Beech Planks — 15 | Elderwood Planks — 135 | Colossuswood Planks — 665 |
| Carpentry | Beech Bow — 75 | Maple Bow — 1,625 | Pale Deadwood Bow — 3,975 |
| Cooking | Wildberry Compote — 34 | Glowcap Soup — 105 | Golden Koi Harvest Feast — 795 |
The number a recipe lists is exactly the number you bank — listed and awarded XP agree by design, and any active event multiplier stacks on top of it.
How modes behave
- Modes persist. Your choice survives logout, reconnects and server restarts — a miner who closes the tab is still a miner when the tab reopens.
- Manual taps interrupt politely. Tapping a tile or a rock mid-mode runs that errand; the game then resumes your mode rather than forgetting it.
- Sub-selections are remembered. Every mode that asks you to choose something — the ore, the wood, the forage kind, the bar, the recipe at the anvil, the sawmill, the bench or the campfire — remembers it separately for online and offline use, so your overnight copper order never clobbers your daytime iron work.
- Modes end sensibly. Out of materials, out of reachable rocks, or pack genuinely stuck — the mode stops with a message instead of walking forever.
Offline modes
The same list (minus Manual) doubles as your offline mode — what your wanderer does while you're away, simulated server-side with live rules. Set it deliberately before logging off: Explore for distance, Hunt for combat XP and loot, any of the ten profession modes for production and trade XP, Rest to just heal and hold position. A "match offline to online" convenience toggle keeps the two in sync if you'd rather not think about it. Full details in the offline guide.
Which mode when?
- New region, uncertain strength: Hunt near a town first; Explore once fights feel comfortable.
- Preparing a forge session: Mine (the ore you need) → Smithing (the recipe) — the two-step that builds every tool and set.
- After a defeat: Rest until healed, then decide — the defeat guide has the fuller plan.
- Logging off: always check the offline mode is the one you mean. Ten seconds of intent is the difference between waking to a level and waking to a nap.
