Install Wanderer on iOS

The App Store build is still being prepared — but you don't have to wait for it. Wanderer is a web app, so Safari can put it on your Home Screen right now: its own icon, full screen, no address bar, and the same character you play everywhere else.

  1. Open the game in SafariGo to playwanderer.online/game. It has to be Safari — Chrome and Firefox on iPhone can't add a web app to the Home Screen.
  2. Tap the Share buttonThe square with an arrow pointing out of it: at the bottom of the screen on iPhone, in the top-right corner on iPad.
  3. Choose “Add to Home Screen”It sits in the lower group of options — scroll the share sheet down if you don't see it straight away.
  4. Tap “Add”The Wanderer icon appears on your Home Screen. Open it from there and the game runs full screen, exactly like an installed app.

Sign in with the same account and it's one character across iPhone, Android, and any desktop browser. Notifications — such as a boost expiring — need iOS 16.4 or later and only work once the game is on your Home Screen; the game itself runs on any modern iPhone or iPad.

What Wanderer is

Wanderer is an idle RPG set in a persistent multiplayer world shaped like a single road. The Long Road starts in the green meadows of Wanderer's Rest and runs east through 32 hand-built regions — deep forest, black fen, frozen reaches, a ruined capital, a coast of shipwrecks — getting harder with every mile. Other players walk the same road: you'll see them in the towns, on the leaderboards, and in chat.

You play a small, stubborn pixel-art figure that you point down that road. Fight what finds you, take the loot, level Attack, Strength and Defence, mine ore and smith it into better gear, build a house on a roadside lot — and when you put the game down, your wanderer keeps going at whatever you left them doing.

Real gameplay, uncut: a walk through Wanderer's Rest, the town where every journey starts. This is what the game looks like in play.

What you actually do

Fighting the Frozen Wyrm boss in Wanderer
Boss fights punctuate the road — this one sleeps in the Hoarfell falls.

Idle, done honestly

Wanderer's idle system is a promise: away time is part of the game, not a tax on it. Before you close the game you pick an offline activity — keep exploring, hunt, mine a chosen ore, run the forge, or just rest — and your wanderer does exactly that, using the same rules as live play. Come back and a summary shows where they got to, what they fought, and what they found. There is no energy system, no login streak, and no penalty for missing a day.

Offline progress runs for 1 hour by default and can be extended to 12 with in-game coins — coins you earn by playing, not by paying. The details are in the offline progression guide.

Play anywhere, one character

The browser and mobile apps are the same game on the same servers. Sign in with Google (or a plain username) and the same wanderer walks on whichever screen you open — start on your phone at lunch, continue in a desktop tab in the evening. The browser version installs as a PWA if you want an icon on your home screen; the Android app is the same game with native touches, and on iPhone or iPad you can add Wanderer to your Home Screen from Safari today while the App Store release is being prepared.

Is it pay-to-win?

No gear, levels, or stats are sold. Optional rewarded ads grant a temporary double XP-and-coins boost or bank extra offline-progress time. The monthly Wanderer Supporter subscription removes the need to watch those ads for the same boost and adds cosmetic recognition. Every sword in the game is still dropped, forged, or bought with in-game coins.

Your first session

  1. Open the game and pick a name — you wake in Wanderer's Rest.
  2. Try the movement modes: tap to walk, or set Explore and watch your wanderer take the road.
  3. Step past the town boundary and fight the basin's slimes and boars — your first coins and drops.
  4. Mine copper and tin in the fields west of town; smelt bronze at Gregor's smithy; smith your first gear.
  5. Set an offline mode, close the tab, and come back later to see how far your wanderer walked without you.

The full walkthrough lives in the getting-started guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is Wanderer free?

Yes — the whole game is free. Optional rewarded ads and the monthly Wanderer Supporter subscription fund development; neither sells gear, levels, or exclusive progression.

Do I need to download anything?

No. The browser version runs in any modern browser on phone or desktop at playwanderer.online/game. The mobile apps are optional.

Does progress really continue while I'm offline?

Yes. You choose what your wanderer does while you're away — explore, hunt, mine, smith or rest — and the server simulates it with the same rules as live play, for up to your offline-time cap (1 hour base, extendable to 12 with earned coins).

Is it pay-to-win?

No gear, levels, or stats are sold. Supporters receive the same temporary 2× XP-and-coins boost available through optional rewarded ads, plus cosmetic recognition.

Do I have to interact with other players?

No. Wanderer is a shared world — you'll see other players and can chat — but nothing requires grouping, trading or PvP. You can walk the whole road solo.

What happens when I lose a fight?

You're revived at the nearest town you've unlocked, with your gear intact. Defeat costs time and position, never your items. See what to do after a defeat.

Does my browser progress carry to mobile?

Yes — it's one account on one server. Sign in with the same account and the same character appears in your browser, on Android, iPhone and iPad.

Can I delete my account?

Yes, at any time — see account deletion. It removes your character and data permanently.

Is the game still being updated?

Actively — balance passes, new art, and world expansions ship regularly. The blog carries patch notes and development diaries.

How long is the game?

The road runs through 32 regions with recommended levels from 1 to over 300. Reaching the Forgotten Sanctum is a long-haul goal measured in months of casual play, not hours.

What devices does it run on?

Any modern browser on desktop or mobile, Android via Google Play, and iPhone or iPad — where you can add it to your Home Screen from Safari while the App Store release is prepared. It's light — built for phones first.
